Beneficial Insects / Bio Control Agents
Now a days farmers are gaining awareness on importance and need of organic farming. The Central and State Governments also promoting the organic methods and bio inputs in such an intensive way. In the organic farming there is absolutely no issues for Nutrient management. Diseases also can be managed properly.
However the pest management in organic fields is really critical. This is inspite of several non-chemical/ non pesticidal methods like traps, entamopathogenic fungi, herbal sprays etc., Not only in organic farming, in conventional farms also pest management goes critical due to several reasons.
Keeping in view of this condition, SSD is also prioritising the mass rearing of certain broad spectrum, polyphagus predators and parasitoids like Green Lace wing, Trichogramma etc.,
In this regard,
- SSD Bio Sciences has entered into MoU with the Dr. YSR Horticultural university for technology transfer and licensing of Mass rearing technology of Pseudomallada astur Predator. MoU No: DrYSRHU-DIIP-TT-01
- Established a bio control laboratory for mass rearing of bio control agents with a capacity of 50000 eggs/ day
- Standardised the protocol of mass rearing of Pseudomallada astur in its lab based on the technology given by Dr YSR Horticultural University.
- Standardised the mass rearing of Corcyra cephalonica, the rice moth for its egg production, which is the basic food material for Pseudomallada grub in the laboratory during mass rearing.
- Published and released literature on the potential of this predator in pest management.
- Presented the progress of the Mass rearing project to the honourable Commissioner of Horticulture, Dept. Of Horticulture, AP Sri. Sridhar, IAS., and to the Vice Chancellor of Dr YSR Horticultural University Dr. T. Janakiram and received appreciations.
